Using Drama to bring Language to Life!
Download our language_in_action brochure for more informationOur aims
· To inspire children to express their ideas and imagination
· To learn a foreign language in a fun and exciting way
· To increase awareness and understanding of other cultures and be part of a diverse society
Our approach
“Teach me & I’ll forget. Show me & I’ll remember. Involve me & I’ll understand.” ConfuciusOur programme enhances children’s learning ability and stimulates their insight into other cultures.
Language is not just a template of grammar and vocabulary. It is also a tool to enhance one’s creativity, express feelings and opinions.
Through Active Participation, using Fun & Motivational activities, children:
· Focus on Communicative, functional language skills
· Are immersed in their chosen language by native drama facilitators
· Engage into drama games, storytelling, music and creative movement based on age appropriate themes
Using a combination of drama and foreign language resources, our curriculum is carefully structured around the target language learning goals, within the context of each fun theme. Progress is monitored against the “Languages Ladder” Speaking and Listening skills (endorsed by the National curriculum and the Common European Framework for Languages).
What it involves
A typical 55min session always starts and finish with songs or interactive response drama games, to reinforce conversational core phrases in the chosen language.
Activities include key vocabulary or phrases, such as expressing likes and dislikes or possessions as part of weekly learning goals, each with an age appropriate theme like ‘Pirates treasure’, ‘A trip to the zoo’ or ‘At the Airport’, using storytelling, creative movement and music.
Our free Language in Action experience, a one hour taster workshop, serves as a perfect introduction to your chosen language. Workshops follow the school term and are payable in advance. We recommend twice weekly sessions to increase exposure and learning. (minimum number of children within each session is 6)
